My first ever car - this photo was taken on the day I bought her. Complete brake failure wasn't too much of a problem as I could only select 2nd gear, so I couldn't travel faster than 18 mph! I blame this day for my grey hairs - I could feel myself ageing with every hundred yards! We nearly made it home - it was only the smoke pouring from under the bonnet that stopped us. Nearly two years and over four thousand pounds later, she's back on the road and putting on the miles. I have learnt so much, and had quite a lot of fun. Would I do it again? Watch this space...... She's needed new hubs, disks, pads, brakelines, new clutch, gearbox rebuild, trackrod ends, sidelight unit, washer motor, steering rack gaiters, windscreen wipers and blades, carburettor rebuild, battery, 4 tyres, number plate light unit, door seals, window seals.............the list goes on and on and on................. |
Built
in December 1965 and registered in South-west London in January 1966,
Susan has spent 39 of her 40 years dauh'n saurf. That was until a
naive twenty something bought her and brought her back to her birthplace
of Coventry, possibly for the first time in four decades. And there
she lives still, in a warm garage having lots of new bits put on her.
She's now back on the road and is a complete hoot to drive. What fun!
Oh yes! |

This gave the later 6's as much as 10 - 15 BHP more than the early Solex carbed ones and better power delivery. Curiously, Triumph never changed the stats or advertised this fact. The Mark 1 two litre Vitesse lasted until Sep 68 when it was replaced by the Mark 2 Vitesse. |
